Deborah Kimmett: A Career on the Road

Our own local celebrity, Deborah Kimmett, does just this.

A Second City alumna, Deborah is a comedian appearing on CBC-TV and CBC Radio, a writer and a speaker, among other things. Deborah grew up in the area but moved around to pursue her career, returning 20 years later to live on a beautiful island  in L&A. "Lennox and Addington calls to me,” she says. “I always received support from close people. My family name was well known in the area, which opened up a lot of doors for me here. It is about a sense of community and being able to make connections easily -- something  you wouldn't get from a big city."

Although she enjoys living in a rural area, Deborah is still able to nourish her career. "You can live anywhere due to the internet, email, and phone,” she says. “I can feel connected and have all the availability from the urban area. It is such a great day and age to be in a rural area because we still enjoy the benefits of both worlds."

We asked her what she enjoyed most about the lifestyle of an entrepreneur. "It never occurred to me to work for other people,” she says. “I prefer to work for myself. Because of choosing theatre and television, I have always been an entrepreneur and never worked for someone else. At this point I like the freedom to put my own ideas into play on a daily basis and figure out the projects I'd like to work on."
